    So nice to see you again Dianne, i learned so much from your SNCA classes so many, many years ago. I miss you and thank you for teaching me how to paint. I passed along what i learned from you to a small group of ladies in my community, We meet weekly sometimes to do artwork or just to chat. They all found talent they didn’t know they had, thanks for the inspiration Dianne, I miss you. Carol Adkins

    Hi, Dianne. I learned things about the value-color line I hadn't known before. Thanks! I didn''t understand what you said about Yyoutube's requirement of clicking on the bell. A quick question about using Eco House pure walnut oil (and wiping if off the canvas to avoid the use of a solvent): it leaves a sticky film on my brush and I'm finding it hard to clean it. This doesn't happen with linseed oil. Any advice? Thanks, again. Carol.

      Hi Carol. When a person becomes a member or a subscriber, there is a bell icon in the upper right-hand corner that they can click on to receive notifications by email everything we send something out on RUclips. On the walnut oil issue, try poppy oil instead. I actually use it to slightly dampen the canvas more often than linseed. Actually, I don't have any experience with walnut oil so know only what other artists have told me about it.

      @@IntheStudioArtInstruction Oh, you mean the ususal subscribers' bell icon? I know about the chats via the weekly newletters. About the walnut oil -- I think I'll go back to linseed as you once suggested. I apply it to the canvas wih gauze and then wipe it off. A bit glossy, though, which walnut oil isn't. Could you tgell me what the others have said about the walnut? Thanks so much for your reply. Be well.

    I like this exercise. Looks fun and interesting but as you lower the intensity of that color it does look like it is getting darker do you think?

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction 14 часов назад

      That's the effect of the lighting. We do have to watch that though, because the neutralizing impact does darken some combinations, but adding back a bit of white will adjust the value.

    As always, great discussion. I find squinting difficult...but iPhone photo.> edit>adjust>filter> mono.... transforms photo to gray tone...and you can see value line w/o the squinting.

I found the quick tip about darkening yellow very helpful.Could you please make another one with another light color? Early I often made the mistake of adding black or van dyck brown to them with bad results. Thank you very much.❤

    I watched this video some time ago, after I had entered a painting in a show and, of course, got no prize or even an "honorable mention." Your advice in this video was gold for me. I did examine my reasons for painting and why my work didn't register with the judges. I decided that I keep painting because I simply love doing it! I kept working, entered another painting in another show a few months ago. Same thing with regard to prizes: nothing. However, my painting sold for a very good price, and I believe the ones that were awarded recognition did not sell....This taught me a great lesson, and it started with this video. I cannot thank you enough, Dianne.

    I used this technique today after watching this video last night. I had been struggling with mixing light colors, and this technique really saved me a lot of time. It also gave me puddles of colors I could use to make variations, so the result it doesn't look unrealistically monochromatic.

    Isn't temperature something to consider when choosing a color as well?

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction 2 дня назад

      The hues we use give us the temperature. It is during the painting process that we take temperature into consideration unless we intentionally want to key our paintings warm or cool. But we are still using hue to do that.

    Thank you Dianne for your wonderful videos. Just a precision, not sure which titanium white you are using, but in my experience and according to Golden Artist Colors and Natural Pigments websites, titanium white has a blue bias. So it tents to be cool, and Zinc tends to be warm. Hope this helps, I will keep digging on the subject ❤

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction 2 дня назад

      Marc, I am using the Gamblin titanium white, but since the temperature of colors we mix is controlled by hue rather than white, the temperature of the white doesn't matter.

    Dianne, i've been watching your videos for a long time, and i really love them so much. It helps me to understand more about painting especially from reference. Despite all that, i have a question for you. What do you think about (not from reference) painting from imagination? Will you make a video for it? Thank you♡

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction 3 дня назад

      Painting from imagination can be a wonderful experience. But in order to do so with confidence, doing studies from the actual world plus getting a handle on how to compose paintings can go a long way towards being able to express your imaginative work.

    Good day. What color or colors are used to make a particular value read lighter or darker in a painting. Thank you 😊

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction 4 дня назад

      It depends upon the color you are trying to lighten. Generally, the warmer colors will require a bit of yellow along with white, and the cooler colors lighten well with white alone. But sometimes, a really dark color lightens best with a lighter hue of the same color. For example, alizarin crimson lightens best with cadmium red light.
